Why I love my Natural Hair Powder by Naked Eye Beauty (And how I use it.)

PicMonkey CollageAs you know by now, I was once a hair product junkie and now I am not. Now I do the ShamPHree method, which uses and honors your hair and scalp’s natural production of moisturizing protective oils to coat the hair. I love to use coconut oil and shea butter to moisturize my ends but that is about it.

I love my hair without loading it down the way I used to…..But I have been craving a little extra something lately. I go 4-5 days in between ShamPHree-ing   (No-poo-ing) and usually by day 3 I am wanting something to lift my hair back up, freshen it, add a bit of texture, and make it smell pretty without building it up with plastic-y waxy residue. I have been on the hunt for the Perfect Hair Powder.

I was geeking out the other day on Instagram and a friend of mine posted a photo of her new bottle of hair powder from Naked Eye Beauty. I was instantly intrigued.Screen Shot 2013-03-21 at 7.51.32 PM

They are Vegan and natural L.A. based hair and skin care product line that custom blends hair care products, soaps and scrubs, makeup, and general facial care items that I want to stock my bathroom cabinet with.

I was immediately intrigued by the ingredients that they use in their products, their cool earthy product names and packaging, and the beautifully blended colors they create for their makeup. I eagerly read about their upcoming collaboration with Sisters of the Black Moon, one of my favorite online shop/blogs. It is called The Ether collection -  and it is an Essential Oil Blend, Hair Powder and Body Butter……All scented with a delicious and sexy sounding mix of bitter orange, lavander, llang llang, and amber. I need it.

I excitedly bought the blush and eyeliner, deodorant, and of course the Natural Hair Powder ( I got Blonde for my almost blondish hair.)

It arrived 2 days later on my doorstep and I tore open the package because I just happened to be on day 3 between ShamPHree’s and I was desperate for something to revive my tired hair.

I immediately loved the fresh sage-y lavender smell of the Natural Hair Powder.  I sprinkled it into my roots, brushed it through, and was in love at first dusting. It disappeared into my hair, soaking up oil, giving me lift at my roots, and adding  just enough texture and grit. It even made my hair shiny, which was a very nice surprise!

I ended up stretching out my next ShamPHree to 6 days total, longest ever. Thanks to this fantastic product my hair looked, felt, and smelled great from days 3-6. I couldn’t be happier. I had to share this with you because I love this stuff so much and I even put together a little video to show you how I used my Naked Eye Beauty Natural Hair Powder.

  1. I’m too embarrassed to post a photo of my blah mommy hair :p But mine is about to be long enough that I’ll be trying to learn some of your tricks :) This hair powder sounds awesome. All of their studd does! <3

  2. Wow, you obviously read my mind so I guess I should make my confession public. I had been shamphree for about a month or so and loved that it made my hair shinier and wavy but had always hated the lack of volume from not blow drying or using mousse and the few days of greasiness (since my hair is fine and thin). So just this very morning I fell off the wagon and shampooed my hair and did the usual product/blow dry routine (feel free to gasp in horror at this point). I thought I would like returning to the land of volumosity (that term being pretty debatable to my hair type) but instead it just looked fluffy and fried. Not a good look. So maybe this dry shampoo you’re touting may just be the answer to the prayers of my sad strands. (In brunette of course *wink wink*) Volume and no grease?! Anyway, thanks for the giveaway! May the best hair win! :D

  3. oooh, this looks great. I tend to need a bit of a hair ‘pick-me-up’ every now and then and hate the effect that dry spray shampoos have on the environment. This looks like an awesome option. Thanks!

  4. How to hair girl I am in love with your site and tutorials. I am a fellow hair stylist and I can say that your recommendations have been spot on so far! I am three weeks into shamphree-ing and I couldn’t be more amazed or happy this far. I plan on shampreeing for a month and then switching back to my previous favorite shampoo/conditioner and see what happens. Although I think I already know what the results will be I like doing experiments! I have also really enjoyed your tutorials and tried the foil pattern you recommended on one of my clients with really great results. I would love to try the naked eye beauty line of products because I am tired of all the junk that we put on ourselves each day without knowing what it is. So I am exploring this world of natural beauty products and finding that they are working better than most everything I have ever used. Thank you for exploring new ideas and techniques that are easier and healthier alternatives! Keep it comin!

  5. I love your site! I’m always on the go, so my hair would always go in a bun (boooring) but now I just do a quick search and get inspired to get creative with my hair! It has been soo much fun!

  6. oooh la la! this powder is right up my alley! so glad to know about it… anything you suggest i know is definitely worth trying. thanks for all the hair magic.

  7. Thanks so much for this recommendation and tutorial on how to use the hair powder most effectively. I fudged my way through the shamPHree method today with stuff I had on hand (I was too eager to get started!), but I’ve got a few supplies on the way from Amazon to fully start my shamPHree journey. I also went to the NEB site and picked up the hair powder too. (BONUS – it just so happened to be on sale!) Can’t wait till it gets here to try it out! I wanted to get the brown one, but opted for the blonde since my hair is red with light highlights right now, but if I like it (which I suspect I will), I’ll get the brown for when I go darker again in the fall.

  8. I am really loving this post! I am trying to embrace my hair and find things that will make is healthier and happier. This should help. Thank you!!!
