The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo haircut! A DIY look.

Hey. I know I’m a little late with this one. I never claimed to be on the cutting edge of book and movie characters. I am slightly ashamed to say I haven’t yet read the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo books or seen the movies. But they are on my list and I really do intend on reading and watching.

When the movie came out, I kept hearing about Lisbeth Salanders haircut. So, what did I do? I googled. And I found these

These are some dynamic short haircuts. They have elements of texture, disconnection, undercut sides, super blunt lines, jagged edges. A bold and edgy cut for the brave lady who wants to make a statement. I  any texture. And I recommend this haircut on medium to thick hair of any texture. I would like to challenge a curly haired girl to try this look because I think it would be crazy bangin!

So, who should I practice on? My sister, Brook. She is a superstar cancer biologist in one of the worlds best labs. And how do you shake things up in a science lab? Have freaky hair. She totally pulls off the hot and freaky scientist lady look.

What I learned from cutting her hair in a The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo haircut is that blunt lines make their point a lot better on very dark hair, but it still worked.

In this little DIY video for the ‘do, Penelope Purple Martin Mojo Olive-Starr O’bersky volunteered to be my model. You think her name is bad-ass? You should meet her in person.

I have been lucky enough to have watched her grow from little kid into a killer young lady who exudes a quiet confidence and personal style. She is a junior roller derby champ who needed a edgy hairdo to go with her fierce skating skills. So, we went for it.

Hipster pixie chick

This hip little short pixie cut packs a punch for ladies that want to make a statement. It has an undercut element to it, a heavy top and fringe, and a little disconnection. It is an easy diy haircut because half of it is cutting ponytails. It is done with a razor, so read up and practice your razoring technique to bring you up to speed before you dive in. This cut will work best on finer hair types. If you are a curly girl or boy and want this look, use shears and pointcutting instead of the razor.

Pixie-bob. The official HTHG ‘do of summer

Heather is so herself with short hair. Long hair looks nice on her too, but with the darkness and silky texture of her hair against her pretty olive skin, This short cut frames her face like the perfect picture frame.

This little ‘do has been a summer go-to hair cut that I have customized for my clients since the get-go. It is so feminine, a little edgy, and grows out fantastically into a nice layer-y soft face framing bob. Get this cut in the beginning of the summer, wear it in all it’s different stages of grow out until the fall. This one I did with a razor, It’s a short graduated bob with an angle forward, then texturized through the top, then a little asymmetrical bang to top it all off.

The ponytail razored bob.

This is a super cute edgy cut that can literally be done in 10 minutes, with no experience necessary, using your razor, a comb, and a ponytail holder.

Using ponytails when cutting hair is a fantastic trick that I like to share with beginners, to create great looking haircuts and color techniques that look professionally done. When strategically placed, they are very controlled ways of sectioning, elevating, and directing hair all at the same time to work within a haircut, taking out the stress and confusion of subsectioning. A perfect short cut to fabulous hair.

I prepared a quick ‘lil demo for my HTHG viewers.

Razored pixie cut!

This is Ann. She has had one hell of a year, and was ready to make a big hair change. It was one of those stuck in hair stuck in life situations that called for a big chop.

She needed stylish, feminine, effortless, free, different. Ann is a psychiatric epidemiologist and a statistician. She spends her time teaching grad students, finding causes and treatments for mental illnesses, traveling, and enjoying the great outdoors and the arts with her friends and family. She is the doting grandma to 2 young girls. She hardly has time to fuss with her hair.

So, a low maintanance hairstyle that speaks for itself was what she got! you should have seen her after her cut. She was giddy and light and free as a bird, ready to blaze new trails with her cute new ‘do. A demo of this easy razored pixie is available to my premium subscribers!

And 8 weeks later, the cut has grown right into itself beautifully. She femmes it up nicely with a touch of pink and some pretty earrings.

It pretty much speaks for itself without any styling beyond running a little hair resort through it and messing it up with her hands. She says she gets compliments all the time.
